Smart Grids ensure effective renewable energy use


The steady growth of renewable energy technologies and cost-competitiveness of solar and wind power call for a smarter approach to power-grid management. The latest working paper from the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) examines smart-grid technologies as a way to accommodate larger shares of electricity from renewable sources.

Smart Grids and Renewables: A Guide for Effective Deployment, released at an IRENA Council meeting in Abu Dhabi on 11 December, is part of the intergovernmental agency’s expanding technology roadmap for the integration of renewable power.
