The capacity building workshop was a national level, 2-days training that covered the theoretical aspect of climate investments and flows as well as the approaches and practices adopted to track and report these investments and financial flows.
IRENA, in partnership with the UNFCCC and UK COP26 Presidency, hosted a webinar on “COP 26 Climate-Energy Dialogue in the Middle East and North Africa region”, providing a regional forum for the discussion on driving energy transition and building momentum on climate action.
The capacity building event contributed to the improvement of PPAs (Power Purchase Agreements) in the region and enhanced the capability of local utilities and regulators to design bankable contracts, with the final goal of contributing to effective commitment of private capital to the deployment of renewable energy projects in SIDS of the Pacific.
IRENA in collaboration with the Ministry of Mines and Energy, Colombia, organised a workshop to explore the current renewable energy policy landscape in Latin America, the growing role of public and private financing for renewables, and the available project facilitation tools for countries in the region.
As part of the 7th Power and Energy Infrastructure Cluster (PEIC) of the Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA), IRENA organised a regional project facilitation technical training workshop in Brunei Darussalam focusing on the development of bankable solar energy projects in the region.
Organised in the framework of the SIDS Lighthouses Initiative and co-organised with the Indian Ocean Commission (IOC), the regional workshop on renewable energy project development and financing in the Indian Ocean Islands supported capacity building efforts by implementing a regional training on project development and financing for local SIDS stakeholders.
Under the framework of the SIDS Lighthouses Initiative, IRENA held a technical workshop on project development and financing for Caribbean and Pacific SIDS stakeholders during IPS Connect 2018.
In the framework of the implementation of the West Africa Clean Energy Corridor (WACEC), which was validated, adopted and endorsed by the countries of the West Africa region in 2016 – 2017, IRENA has launched a capacity building programme in the region in collaboration with relevant stakeholders of the ECOWAS power sector (ECREEE, WAPP, ERERA and GIZ).

In addressing entrepreneurs’ requests for technical assistance in scaling up their renewable energy enterprises, the workshop facilitated experience sharing amongst ECOWAS renewable energy entrepreneurs, direct contact between financial institition representatives and the entrepreneurs, and focused on exploring viable business models, marketing and sales strategies, after-sales servicing, building banking relationships and customizing renewable energy solutions to end-user needs, amongst other topics.
