As part of the Renewables Readiness Assessment (RRA) process, this Validation Workshop jointly be organised by IRENA, El Salvador's Ministry of Economy, and the Hydroelectric Commission, will bring together renewable energy stakeholders to validate the recommendations of the draft RRA report.

IRENA organised a workshop on 12-13 December in Bonn, inviting government practitioners, experts, and researchers to discuss the current use of geospatial information in long-term energy planning.

IRENA’s Innovation landscape report maps and categorises many examples of innovations and innovative solutions in development by pioneering companies and backed by far-sighted governments around the world. The report and its accompanying detailed online resources provides decision makers with a clear, easily navigable but comprehensive guide to the diversity of innovations in use, or in development, in countries across the globe.

The GGA, IRENA, the IGA and World Bank co-organised a series of technical sessions with the Geological Survey of Ethiopia, and other local stakeholders in the geothermal sector in Ethiopia.

IRENA Innovation Day took place on 16-17 July 2019 in Uruguay and focused on innovative solutions for the reliable integration of variable renewable energy in power systems, and showcased innovations in areas such as the role of digital technologies (blockchain, artificial intelligence, etc.), the electrification of transport & heat, the role of energy storage and the potential of hydrogen, amongst others.

This workshop was part of the experience-sharing programme on innovative solutions for very high shares of renewable power by mid-century, supported by the government of Sweden and in collaboration with the government of Uruguay.

To inform policy making, IRENA provides state-of-the-art analysis of enabling policy frameworks and finance mechanisms, spanning the entire renewable energy development cycle. The analysis formed the basis for the discussions at the IRENA Policy Day

The focus of this online workshop was on countries who have pledged very high (above 70-80% to 100%) renewable power targets by mid-century, and that accepted to participate in the experience-sharing programme on innovative solutions.

Taking place during the 2019 Scenarios Forum, the session titled “Renewable-based Electrification: How can we Improve Scenarios for Clean Energy Transition?” addressed how long-term energy scenarios can better account for the potentially transformational changes related to renewables-based electrification.

IRENA, together with the Governments’ of Denmark, Colombia and Costa Rica organised this side event to to exchange lesson learnt, good practices and innovative solutions.

The programme aims to build and enhance capacity for long-term energy planning in seven CAPP countries able to participate: Angola, Burundi, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo, Gabon, and Rwanda.

Upon the successful conclusion of the pilot examinations for the certification of off-grid solar PV technicians in Senegal and Ghana, a workshop with all of the main stakeholders is planned to review the results of the piloting, the progress so far, and to discuss the way forward.
